ABU DHABI, 12th July, 2014 (WAM) -- In implementation to the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the U.A.E. Armed Forces and the follow-up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and President of the Emirates Red Crescent, the Emirates Red Crescent has started distribution of urgent humanitarian aid in Gaza.
Dr. Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Emirates Red Crescent said, " Upon receiving the directives from the leadership, the Emirates Red Crescent has instructed its offices in Gaza to distribute urgent humanitarian assistance among the people who are affected by the recent developments in the area." Emirates Red Crescent team left today to Cairo to ensure the arrival of aid convoys to the victims in Gaza and to assess the situation to implement wider relief operations, he told a press conference yesterday at the Emirates Red Crescent's Headquarters.
Al Mazrouei said that the Authority's leadership has examined various options for immediate delivery of assistance to Gaza Strip in the light of the current situation, it has also intensified communications with humanitarian partners in Gaza and Egypt to ensure delivery of the aid among the affectees in a time appropriate.
Dr. Mohamed Ateeq Al-Falahi, Secretary General of the Emirates Red Crescent and a number of officials attended the press conference.
Al Mazrouei also emphasised that the U.A.E.'s support for Gaza in particular and Palestine in general is not unusual, stressing that the current assistance comes within the constant support of the country towards the Palestinian people, which has been enhanced during the era of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
