Country: occupied Palestinian territory, Syrian Arab Republic
In November UNRWA completed its third round of cash assistance, reaching more than 469,000 refugees across Syria. Conditions however continue to deteriorate: over 280,000 refugees have been displaced, many of whom multiple times; inflation in Syria has been estimated at 89 per cent; over half the total population is currently unemployed and coping mechanisms are stretched to breaking point. In this context UNRWA continues to provide urgent humanitarian relief, and as part of its winterisation campaign has already distributed more than 41,00 blankets and mattresses. UNRWA remains concerned about the level of access and humanitarian aid reaching areas such Yarmouk, Khan Eshieh, areas of Rif Damascus and villages to the West of Dera’a.
