Our spokesperson Chris Gunness has the following to say on the situation in Yarmouk Camp
"UNRWA distribution in Yarmouk was interrupted by clashes today, 25th December. It was the first UNRWA distribution in Yarmouk since 12th December.
"The team arrived at the distribution point at 10.15, and began distribution at 12.40. UNRWA distributed 21 food parcels and 21 family hygiene kits, in addition to providing primary healthcare to 23 civilians. Clashes in the vicinity of the distribution point broke out 20 minutes after the beginning of the distribution and caused an early halt to the operation. The UNRWA team had to evacuate the area at 12.50, returning safely to the UNRWA Field Office.
"It is the second consecutive week that clashes severely impede efforts to meet the minimum humanitarian needs of 18,000 civilians trapped in the area. UNRWA is deeply concerned that recourse to armed violence is preventing legitimate food, NFI and health needs from being met, particularly in light of the onset of winter. UNRWA estimates that approximately 400 food parcels are required every day to meet food needs in Yarmouk. So far, only 642 food parcels have been distributed to the population of Yarmouk since the beginning of December. The Agency renews its appeal to all parties to facilitate uninterrupted, full and safe humanitarian access to the area."
