AMMAN, March 24 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Islamic Revival Society donated USD 605,000 to the Palestinian Zakat (alms) Al-Quds Committee and the Jordanian Takaful (solidarity) Society on Tuesday, part of the Gulf country's commitment to helping the Syrian and Palestinian people.

Kuwait Ambassador to Jordan Dr. Hamad Al-Duaij handed over USD 363,000 donation to Ashraf Salhab, Secretary General of the Zakat Al-Quds, and USD 242,000 to vice-president of the Takaful Society Khaled Nawasreh.

The donations "are part of Kuwait's support upon directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to supporting the Palestinian people and the Syrian refugees," Al-Duaij told KUNA.

Kuwait Embassy in Jordan has been supporting Palestinian institutions for years now, out of Kuwait's keenness to backing the Palestinian people and their cause until the liberation of their land and establishment of their independent state, he said.

The assistance offered for the Jordanian society aimed at helping the Syrian refugees in the country. Salhab said cooperation between Zakat Al-Quds and Kuwait's Islamic Revival Society dated back to around 15 years.

The Islamic Revival Society's donation today will be spent over 200 families, 3,500 orphans as well as helping families of the wounded, he said.

Nawasreh told KUNA the donation would be spent on providing aid for around 5,500 Syrian families living in the northern province of Irbed. (end) hmf.bs
