Our spokesperson Chris Gunness has the following to say on the situation in Yarmouk Camp

"April 7th marks the sixth day of sustained armed violence inside Yarmouk. No UNRWA humanitarian operations have been possible in Yarmouk since the outbreak of fighting on April 1st. UNRWA remains greatly alarmed that sustained hostilities continue to inflict unimaginable suffering to the 18,000 Palestinian and Syrian men, women and children trapped in Yarmouk, who survive under constant threat of armed violence, and remain unable to safely access water, food and the most basic healthcare.

"On 7 April 2015, UNRWA provided additional humanitarian support to the 85 civilians from Yarmouk who remain displaced in Tadamon. The Agency distributed additional canned food and clothing kits to support these families. Furthermore, UNRWA is aware of reports of significant civilian displacement to the south of Yarmouk. UNRWA is moving quickly to verify these reports and to organize emergency support to civilians of Yarmouk wherever they are. UNRWA and its partners stand ready to continue providing humanitarian assistance to civilians inside Yarmouk and to those who may be displaced from Yarmouk as a result of the ongoing fighting.

"As violence continues to escalate, UNRWA demands for all armed groups inside Yarmouk to respect and comply with their obligations to ensure the protection of civilians. UNRWA further demands the establishment of secure conditions under which the Agency can deliver life-saving humanitarian assistance."
