Highlights

● On 11 March 2014, AFAD - the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey - announced that the total number of Syrians registered and assisted in 22 camps located in 10 provinces was 220, 196. AFAD reported that during the period of 10-11 March 2014, a total of 976 Syrians were admitted and registered in the camps and 222 Syrians have voluntarily returned to Syria.

● UNHCR was informed about a groups of more than 200 Palestinians (approx.: 50 families) from Syria are living in a house and store under difficult conditions. UNHCR Field Team visited the group and talked with some of them who indicated they crossed the border informally near Kilis. The group was counseled through their representatives and were advised to get registered with the authorities. The group informed the UNHCR Team that they are not willing to be accommodated in camps.

● During a UNHCR field visit to Elbeyli container site, a psychologist from the provincial directorate of MFSP (Ministry of Family and Social Policies) informed the team that he is preparing a vulnerability assessment of the camp residents on a family basis. He has prepared a survey form with questions focused on vulnerability assessment of the camp residents. In Adana the training coordinator from MFSP informed UNHCR that they are planning to organize training programs to raise awareness against polygamous marriage, child marriage, and on communication within the family and parenthood. In Mardin Midyat camp, the management will discuss with the MFSP provincial representative on how to deal with protection cases. The camp management will also request a social worker to be assigned to the camp.

● In Viransehir camp, after the transfer of all those who had been accommodated at the camp gate (over 700 persons), the 8 rub hall tents in which the group had been temporarily accommodated were removed from the camp's gate and re-established inside the camp to be used as additional classrooms for the children.

● In Osmaniye local authorities informed UNHCR that the mobile coordination center located in the city center has become operational this week. The officials informed that as of yesterday, about 700 non-camp Syrians have been registered. The officials estimate that there are about 10,000 Syrians living in the city center however including the vity surroundings the total number could go up to 15,000.
