Today’s announcement includes an additional contribution of $5 million to the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to provide emergency food assistance in Gaza. With this additional funding, the WFP will help at least 230,000 internally displaced persons by immediately distributing emergency ready-to-eat food rations; and, distributing emergency food vouchers.
Canada’s response to 2014 humanitarian appeals
The additional contribution of $5 million announced today in response to the ongoing crisis in Gaza follows a previous contribution of $12 million in humanitarian assistance that Canada provided in March 2014 to the WFP in response to its 2014 humanitarian appeals for the West Bank and Gaza, through the following project:
Providing Food Assistance to the West Bank and Gaza ($12 million, 2014–2015)
This project is implemented by the World Food Programme and will contribute to the distribution of emergency ready-to-eat food and food vouchers for internally displaced people. Assistance is expected to reach 237,000 Palestinians in Gaza, and 263,000 in the West Bank.
