Turkey: Wounded Palestinians to Receive Treatment in Turkey

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Turkey (AFAD), in cooperation with the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, the Ministry of Health, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Turkish Red Crescent and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has transfrred 23 wounded Palestinians to Turkey for treatment.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has coordinated the transfer of wounded Palestinians to Turkey for medical treatment. A military cargo plane with 23 wounded Palestinians and 23 accompanying persons on board has landed at Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Istanbul on Wednesday evening. The Ministry of Health has transferred the patients to hospitals.

The aircraft, operated by the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, had left Turkey at 7.05am earlier today.

The Disaster and Management Authority has coordinated efforts for the transfer and proper identification of wounded Palestinians and accompanying persons through Erez border crossing to the Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel.

A joint effort by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency and the Turkish Crescent under the coordination of AFAD aims to transfer approximately 200 victims of the ongoing violence in Gaza to Turkish hospitals for medical treatment through the recently established an air corridor for humanitarian aid. The authorities have thus far shipped 10,000 boxes of food supplies, $1.5 million worth of medical supplies, $1.7 million worth of fuel as well as beds, blankets and electric generators to the population of Gaza. 25,000 people continue to receive three meals and 70m2 water per day.
